SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT DO YOUR PART TO SAVE OUR TIGERS
November last year, we received a tip off from a member of public with regard to sale of tiger part at one of the local pawnshop.
Officers from the Animal Crime Investigation Unit (ACIU) went down to investigate and found a pair of tiger teeth being sold as a jewelry item. The item which was put together by gold was priced at $428.
With the help of AVA, the item was seized and the case is under investigation.
Under Singapores Endangered Species (Import And Export) Act, any person who has in his possession or under his control, or who sells, offers or exposes or advertises for sale, or displays to the public any scheduled species which has been imported or introduced from the sea in contravention of subsection (1) shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $50,000 for each such scheduled species (but not to exceed in the aggregate $500,000) or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or to both.
There are less than 3200 tigers left in the wild and we urge every individual to play their part in aiding with the conservation efforts for our remaining tigers.
