This afternoon, when I came back from work, I definitely heard a soft mewing from somewhere "up there". I looked up, but could not find any cat in distress.
I came into the house, and found Bunny beside Bobby, trying to shield him (as usual) from bumping into the furniture as Bobby gets all excited whenever I come back and will bounce all over the house like a puppy, knocking into the walls and the furniture. Bunny and sometimes, Tiger, would be on hand to buffer the bumps by standing in front of Bobby so that he bumps into their bodies instead of the hard wall.
Bobby is completely blind now, that's why he needs his good friends as his "seeing cats".
Cow guides Bobby to his food bowl every morning. If Cow is not there, Bobby would not eat. That's the way it is.
This afternoon, I did not see Cow.
As the Blueys were making a racket, I had to attend to them first.
Milk for both, then kibbles. Can you tell who is who?
Then, a friend called. His vet needed the RetroMAD1 urgently for a Parvo puppy. Five puppies had come down with Parvo Virus and only one is left now. I only have a wee bit left but that's all it needs, so I went out to give it to him to pass to his vet.
When I came home, I heard that mewing sound again. This time, I looked up and there....at my bedroom window sill was COW!
Poor Cow, my husband must have accidentally locked him inside the room when he left for work this morning. Cow must have been there all morning and is kind of....stuck. Only Cleo and Indy know how to jump from the window to the roof and down to the garden wall.
When Cow saw me looking up, he mewed so, so loudly.
Okay, okay, Cow, you poor thing. I'm coming....
So I quickly went into the house and went upstairs.
Guess who I saw right in front of the door of the bedroom?
It was Bobby! Bobby must have heard his best friend's mewing and gone upstairs and stood in front of the room, trying his level best to open the door.
Behind Bobby was good ol' Bunny Bun Buns, Cow's brother.
So I opened the door, and Cow quickly came out. He mewed his complaint which I acknowledged (though I can't say I really understood the actual details of what was said/mewed).
Then, we all (the four of us) went downstairs.
And this time, it was Bobby's turn to make sure that his best friend ate.
If you know how Cow has been guiding Bobby to his food bowl every morning, even when Cow was sick, this sight would bring tears to your eyes.
Eat, my friend...
Sister, Pole, also came back to make sure everything was okay.
All is well now, and Bobby is back to his duty of looking after the Blueys, who by now, had played enough and are fast asleep.
Now, THAT'S what friends are for.
And I never thought I'd feel this way, And as far as I'm concerned, I'm glad I got the chance to say, That I do believe I love you.
And if I should ever go away, Well then, close your eyes and try To feel the way we do today, And then if you can remember...
Keep smiling, keep shining, Knowing you can always count on me for sure. That's what friends are for. For good times, and bad times, I'll be by your side forever more, That's what friends are for.
From the album...
When Cow, Bunny and Pole were first rescued in 2006. It was Bobby's first time EVER seeing kittens. That's Bobby looking at Cow (notice the trademark mole?)
Bobby would help look after them.
Always watching over them.
If they wandered far, he would carry them in his mouth and bring them back to their carrier.
Over the years, Bobby became blind gradually due to cataracts.
Bunny became Bobby's "eyes", guiding him around the house. Bunny would bring Bobby to his food bowl, while Cow would "check" the food for Bobby.
Later, Cow took over the duty of leading Bobby to his food bowl every morning because he could not see nor smell very well. Then Cow has to lick the gravy, before Bobby starts eating. When Bobby starts, Cow moves away. He does not eat Bobby's food.
Cow in his famous "fish pose" and Bobby.
That's what friends are for!
