CP has been feeding this family of former strays (now community cats) around her house - Mimi, Didi and Manja. Manja is Didi's mother and Mimi is Didi's "wife" of sorts.
A few days ago, CP was very concerned that Manja had not been eating and was limping.
So, it was off to the vet's:
Manja did not dare come out of the carrier, so they had to open the top.
Comforting Manja while the vet checks her hind leg.
Checking the bones in her paws.
The vet did not find anything wrong.
Manja home again.
She still did not want to eat and slept at this same spot for 3 hours.
Son, Didi, accompanies his mum, Manja. Aww....
Manja inside the carrier.
CP was still worried today, so I made an appointment for her to bring Manja again.
Here's updates from CP:
The vet's 1 hour check-up revealed:-
- Manja has a swell under her right foot which is causing the pain every time she walks
- The swell could be an old wound or something she stepped on (love-grass; glass – incidentally I found a pc of glass inside the drain where she used to hide in). It could also be a missed jump and she landed on some edge which caused this inflammation.
- There was a crack sound when Dr checked her feet = arthritis
- Her loss of appetite is attributed by the pain she’s having.
- She’s between 5++ to 9 yrs old based on :- loss of quite a number of lower teeth which could be due to feline Aids although her top teeth indicates she might be just around 5+
- No fractures or spinal injuries
What was done on her today:- - A needle prick on her right foot to see if there’s any pus (no pus but pus can set in if it gets worse over the next few days). No pus so no lancing is required.
- An antibiotic pill and a pain killer
What needs to be done over the next few days:- - Antibiotic pill for next 6 days (I will bring her to the clinic to get this done as Manja is not cooperative where force-feeding is concerned and we have no experience in pill popping - we failed to get her de-wormed last month)
- Hot compress on her feet twice a day
- Confine her in cage for next 2 weeks to avoid getting her wound contaminated
Get well soon, Manja!
