GREEN IGUANA 10-10-10-10 SADLY PASSES AWAY
10-10-10-10 was so named as he was rescued on the 10th of October 2010 at 10pm. He was a large fully-grown adult at the time of rescue, although we will never know his exact age.
He was a fit and active iguana, with his size and strength second only to Midori, who is the largest green iguana in our care. We have seen 10-10-10-10 go through many different phases from being a sweet and curious iguana who loved morning glory to being a very temperamental boy when he went through hormonal changes.
10-10-10-10s health started to deteriorate over the past 2-3 months. He had a liver problem and stopped eating. Attempts to tube-feed failed as the syringed food was not being digested.
Unfortunately, even after a few courses of medication, 10-10-10-10 died a few days after the last tablet was given. Based on his size when he was rescued, 10-10-10-10 could easily have been 10-15 years old when he died, which is their average lifespan in captivity.
Green iguanas are native to South America and are heavily exploited for the exotic pet trade. 10-10-10-10 was a victim of the illegal exotic pet trade in Singapore: it is illegal to sell or keep these animals as pets here.
Let us spread the word about the illegal trade and why we should never keep wild animals as pets. Lets keep green iguanas in the wild, where they belong.
