WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO EAT ME?

I have escaped unimaginable torture and slaughter. My name is DJ; please give me a home.

I am a survivor of the illegal dog meat trade, currently living at a purpose-built shelter in northern Thailand. I was snatched from the street and crushed into a cage with many other dogs and driven away on a truck to cross the border. It was the most frightened I have ever been.

Where were these people taking me? I could hear the younger dogs crying with fear as we travelled through the night, the older dogs unable to cope with the stress and heat during the day. Many died as we drove towards the border – with what lay ahead at that time, they were the lucky ones.

I awoke to the rattling of cages and the truck stopping abruptly. Suddenly, all the cages were taken off and we were released and put into a big truck and taken to a special shelter for survivors of the dog meat trade.

I am a sweet girl of about 5 years of age. I have now seen many other dogs leaving to go to their new homes and I do wonder….when will it be my turn? I am losing hope and have become unhappy. I have forgotten how much joy I used to get from being petted and loved. I will need someone to love me and be patient.

Please give me a chance to find my happy ever after. I am happy to go to the USA, Canada or Europe. Anywhere where I can be loved and show you so much love in return.
