SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT ABUSED PUPPYS MIRACULOUS SECOND CHANCE AT LIFE

In the UK earlier this year, four boys under the age of 16 and under the influence of drugs, stole a puppy, fed him drugs, kicked and punched him, and wrung and broke his neck. They also set fire to his face and eyes after lighting a deodorant aerosol can, and left him near a rubbish tip to die. The poor puppy was only discovered days later by a passerby.

Miraculously, the puppy, named Chunky, survived the ordeal. Happily, he is now restored to health and has been returned to his owners.

Sadly, such cruel acts against animals happen frequently and all over the world.

Since the 1970s, research has consistently reported childhood cruelty to animals as the first warning sign of later delinquency, violence, and criminal behaviour. In fact, nearly all violent crime perpetrators have a history of animal cruelty in their profiles.

Most commonly, children who abuse animals have either witnessed or experienced abuse themselves.

In Singapore this year, we have received reports about students, from primary to tertiary level, who have allegedly abused animals. This includes throwing pebbles and rocks at cats, hitting a cat and twisting the neck of a kitten and throwing the body into the dustbin.

Animal abuse is widespread in our society, and this unacceptable behaviour needs to end. Everyone can play their part in protecting animals.

A lot of cruel acts towards animals are against the law in Singapore. Do your part and help to end animal cruelty. Be vigilant and report cases of animal cruelty to the ACRES Animal Crime Investigation Unit (ACIU) at acrescrime@gmail.com
