IN ANOTHER LIFE, A WORLD AWAY, MY NAME WAS VANILLA

My name is Pearl now, and this is my story.

I was a happy street dog of Thailand, until the day I was grabbed by evil men and thrown in a small, rusting cage which already held three other dogs.

The cage was hurled onto a truck, which contained hundreds of other cages. Each cage held terrified dogs like me. None of us knew where we were going but we knew it wasn’t good.

That truck drove for miles and miles, and then days and days. We were not fed once or given any water to drink. The heat was stifling but worse was the pure terror we all felt.

We were too scared to bark. Some of the dogs whimpered, but soon there was just the heavy sound of petrified silence.

I can no longer remember how long we’d been driving when the truck stopped abruptly in the middle of the night. The darkness around us was pierced by the bright lights of other vehicles and the flashlights shining on our cages. The silence was shattered by shouting.

We were surrounded by people from Soi Dog Foundation. They were with the Thai police and the Thai army. They stroked us through the bars of our cages and told us we were now safe and nobody would ever hurt us again. Thousands of dogs like me have been saved because of people like you.

Maybe those kind people like you didn’t think their donation would make a difference. Maybe they worried their regular gift each month was not enough to save dogs from torture and slaughter as part of Asia’s cruel dog meat trade. But it was enough. It was enough to achieve a miracle for thousands – several times over.

Will you please join these people in the fight to rescue more dogs, to feed and care for them until they are adopted, and ultimately to shut down the dog meat trade for good? The fight is gaining momentum and your support is desperately needed now: http://savedogs.soidog.org/care

Today I live in Colorado, in the U.S. I was adopted by my lovely human, who is called Keiko. I am happy, safe, and loved, and I just wanted to let you know that kind people like you have changed my world forever.

Please do the same for more dogs like me – no amount is too small. Please join the fight against one of the largest animal welfare tragedies in the world.
