NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUNDUP: 20 NOVEMBER 2015
1. (LEFT) EazyPee is a reticulated python who was playing hide and seek in a covered drain at a park. The caller was concerned that the snake was stuck. As we were in the midst of attending to another call at the time, we sought assistance from members of the Herpetological Society of Singapore (https://herpsocsg.wordpress.com/) to head on over first. Thanks go to Sankar Ananthanarayanan for ensuring that EazyPee was kept from harm until our rescue team arrived, and at the same time educating interested passers-by about pythons! We were relieved to discover that EazyPee wasnt stuck after all, and we relocated him to a more suitable area nearby.
2. (TOP RIGHT) Arrow is a nightjar; a nocturnal bird species native to Singapore. We were alerted by a concerned member of public who noticed that Arrow had been lying on the ground in a car park for a long time. To our relief, Arrow was just fine and could be released immediately after being checked over.
3. (BOTTOM RIGHT) Pearl is a young pigeon fledgling, who sought shelter in a shoe rack! We are thankful to the concerned members of public who called us to help the bird. Fledglings leave the nest to start learning to be independent at finding shelter and food. However, at times they may get stranded in the evenings and choose to rest in odd spots! But they will resume their activity in the morning. In such cases, it is important to just let them be in the same area/location, and to check on them again in the morning. Please remember to call us if you need advice for such scenarios!
Do remember to call the ACRES 24-hour Wildlife Rescue Hotline at 9783 7782 if you spot any wild animal in Singapore who may need some help.
