On behalf of the animals and staff here at ACRES, we would like to extend our Deepavali wishes to all!
We couldn’t help but do some simple Deepavali enrichment for the Indian star tortoises at the AWRC. We made the enrichment using some yellow bells and hibiscus flowers for decoration. The lights were made using hollowed out mangosteen fruits filled with pumpkin and carrots and adding capsicum cut-outs to replicate a flame.
Deepavali is the festival of lights and is symbolic of good triumphing over evil. It is our hope that through our continuous efforts in outreach, rescue and tackling wildlife crime, in the future more and more Indian star tortoises will always ‘celebrate’ Deepavali in their native country, no longer victims of the illegal wildlife trade!
