FROM FLOWER POTS TO TURTLE TOYS! THANK YOU, PIONEER JC STUDENTS!

Over last few weeks, students from Pioneer Junior College volunteered at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC), assisting with animal care.

One of their tasks was to create enrichment tools for the rescued pig-nosed turtles in our care. Enrichment is an essential part of everyday animal care to keep animals active, both in body and mind.

They did this by upcycling used flower pots into feeding enrichment items! Food can be hidden inside the pots, motivating the turtles to investigate and try to get the food out. Some of these pots float, while others sink, keeping the turtles occupied for some time!
