OTTER CASE UPDATES

Many of you are aware of the illegal fishing activity resulting in cruelty to a young otter at Toa Payoh Lor 8. Following this incident, the angler who was filmed trying to bait the otter is now assisting the enforcement agencies in the investigations.

Meanwhile, ACRES would like to thank the National Parks Board (NParks) for installing otter advisory notices along the park connectors, providing information for members of public who may encounter or sight the otter family. These temporary signs will be in place until permanent ones are installed.

If you come across wild otters in Singapore, please remember to appreciate them from a distance, and please do not feed or pet them.

ACRES would also like to thank the Public Utilities Board(PUB) for installing CCTV at the spot where the incident happened.

Our special thanks go to Dr. Sivasothi from the NUS, and the dedicated members of public who took the videos, reported the incident, and helped to monitor the condition of the otters through the days and evenings following the incident. We are very heartened by how everyone came together for our wildlife!
