GAURI SAINI: A PASSIONATE ANIMAL ADVOCATE FROM UNITED WORLD COLLEGE!

Gauri volunteered with the animal care department at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC) this October. At the young age of 16, she has already discovered her passion for animal welfare and biology. She found out about the ACRES volunteer programme through our website.

Gauri is a great team player and carried out her duties well. We wish Gauri all the best, and we are confident that she will be able to pursue her interests through her studies! We certainly look forward to seeing her again.

Gauri has very kindly provided the following testimonial, which may help you decide if volunteering or interning with ACRES may be right for you!

Testimonial from Gauri:

“Volunteering at Acres was an enlightening experience for me. Initially I wanted to help animals directly and write it on my resume. Once I started working, I realised this was much harder than it seemed. I pushed through my comfort zones and persevered through all the challenges. After only a few hours at ACRES, I forgot about my resume, I forgot about my fear of lizards and all I could think of is how I can make the animals’ lives better. ACRES taught me that sometimes life is much larger than an individual. We can all do something to help: it can be small like cleaning drains, or it can be going out and rescuing and nursing the sick animals, but I learnt that everything helps. That is what takes real determination.

I didn’t join the volunteering programme with the intention of making friends, but after spending more than 37 hours at ACRES I have made great connections for life. I have interacted with several different species of animals, which was very exciting. The most memorable experience was feeding the tortoises and getting to hold a monitor lizard. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to volunteer at such an amazing place, and it is definitely something I will do again.”
