Dr Luke Gamble of Worldwide Veterinary Services (WVS) had a very productive meeting with the Director-General of the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) , Dr Kamarudin Mohd Isa.
The DVS has shown interest in leading a Mission Rabies Malaysia mass vaccination campaign under the guidance of the state of Penang in collaboration with WVS.
However….
Stop Killing Start Vaccinating (SKSV), however, finds it extremely regrettable that in the interest of public health that the DVS has yet to indicate any concrete interest to immediately cease culling strays, although research and evidence available has shown that rabies transmission is not dependent on population density.
Good intentions must always follow with well-intentioned actions.
We hope the killing will stop as soon as possible and mass vaccination will begin. The innocent dogs and puppies do not deserve to die.
