Mission Rabies Offers Free Vaccination For The Strays In Penang, But

We hope other states will consider seeking help from Mission Rabies. Vaccinating 70% of the stray population has been proven to work at controlling the spread of the disease.
KUALA LUMPUR: International animal rescue NGO Mission Rabies has offered free vaccination for all strays in Penang but has met with stony silence from Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng who stood firm that the inhumane act of culling all strays instead go on as ordered.
Speaking to Mission Rabies, its founder Luke Gamble told FMT that they offered their immediate assistance after Save Our Strays (SOS), a Penang-based NGO, contacted them regarding the culling exercise after two dogs tested positive for rabies there.
“When we learnt about the rabies outbreak in Penang and the possibility of mass culling of dogs, we had to offer our help to the government to prevent the culling which is inhumane, much more expensive and not an effective strategy to eliminate rabies as proven by WHO (World Health Organisation) guidelines and studies,” he explained.
Gamble even wrote a letter to the CM, proposing that Mission Rabies vaccinate all dogs in Penang under the expense of his own NGO. The CM however has not bothered to respond to the proposal as yet.
