I SHOULD BE IN HOSPITAL… ONLY YOU CAN GET ME THERE.

For Mr Sompong, the day he met me started out like any other. He arrived at the temple as usual, to feed all the stray dogs there. This was part of his daily routine; he is a kind man. It was a while before he noticed me, the new boy lying in the corner.

My name is Possum and I am just 2 years old. It was easy to miss me, lying there as quietly as I did, unable to move. I was so weak that just trying to stand up was impossible. I had terrible pain in my back legs but I couldn’t tell him that.

I couldn’t even tell him where I’d come from, or who had dumped me in that temple. All I could do was look into his eyes and will him to help me.

Mr Sompong held out some food to me but I turned my head away. He stroked me but I couldn’t even wag my tail. That’s when he put his arms around me, lifted me up, and carried me to his car. We drove to the Soi Dog shelter.

My story is just one example of why the dogs of Thailand desperately need their own dedicated hospital. The tiny clinic at Soi Dog is the same one that has been used since day one and is no longer able to cope with the number of animals the vets are now being asked to care for.

When Dr Eugene examined me, he said I would need to have something called an x-ray. This meant I needed to undergo another journey to a vet with this special machine because the old Soi Dog clinic does not have one.

It showed that I had an old, untreated fracture, probably from having been hit by a car at some point. I was also very dehydrated and fell over each time I tried to stand up or walk.

Dr Eugene is caring for me now, and I am on special medicine for the pain I was in and getting something called IV fluids. I will need a lot of physiotherapy to build up my strength and hopefully get me moving again. For now, I am just happy to be safe.

Will you please play a part in getting the special dog hospital finished? We don’t deserve this life we’ve been born into, but only with YOUR help can things change.

The hospital building is underway, but funds are still needed to finish it, fit it out with the necessary equipment, and then keep it running.

If YOU become an Angel for Dogs today, this means YOU are playing a major part in making this desperately-needed hospital happen. Will you please make it happen for dogs like me?

The dogs of Thailand urgently need your help. Soi Dog’s vet clinic is far too small for the number of neglected, injured and abused dogs it cares for and dogs are suffering and dying as a result. Please donate about a dollar a day to help them.
