DOG PLUMMETING 14 STORIES IS CAUGHT BY HERO
Theres not a ball player on earth whos made a catch as valuable as the one Portland, Oregon resident Ted Nelson made on Saturday morning when he saved the life of a dog who fell from a balcony 14 stories in the air. The 5-year-old Bichon Frise named Morty is alive because of the sharp eyes and quick hands of this neighbor. The rescue has many pet lovers asking themselves, Could I have made that catch?
Ted was in his own apartment across the street over the weekend when he saw something alarming outside the building across the street.
There was a dog that had ended up climbing through the railing on its balcony and it was perched on this little ledge, Ted told NBC affiliate KGW.
Knowing that he might have moments or even seconds before the dog fell, Ted ran outside and lined up his body directly below Morty. Hed barely just arrived when he suddenly saw a small mass of white fur hurtling toward him.
I just looked up at it and it was looking at me and it landed right in my chest, Ted said. Caught it for a minute, kind of fell, it did hit the ground. It let out a yelp but it was a huge relief to hear it yelp.
Mortys family was not home at the time of the incident but Ted and his girlfriend immediately headed for the veterinarian to check for injuries. Fortunately, Morty came away with only minor bruises.
Ironically, this was Teds second save. Last year he had seen a cat perched on one of the balconies, but in that case he was able to holler up to get the attention of the residents who brought the cat safely inside.
How many of you would like to have a neighbor like Ted?
