There have been battles to get representation for all sorts of common people, places and items in emojis, so it’s only right that this has happened.
The new emoji keyboard for dogs features 23 popular breeds. Launched by Dogs Trust, the UKs largest dog welfare charity, it’s bound to resonate with hound owners. From Great Danes to Chihuahuas, and Dachshunds to Pugs, there’s something for everyone.
A quarter of UK households own a pet pooch, yet there are still only a handful of dogs represented in the current emoji keyboard with no plans to expand the range in the Unicode 9.0 update, according to Dogs Trust. Each emoji has been based on a real dog in one of the charity’s Rehoming Centres looking for a new home, and their aim is to celebrate canine diversity in all its barking glory.
Adrian Burder, chief executive of Dogs Trust, told the Daily Mail: “As the UKs largest welfare charity, we have a responsibility to ensure all are fairly treated, and represented, in both the digital and real world. We see so many wonderfully different dogs every day, we wanted to share this with the public.”
The tool is available for iPhone and Android, from the App store or Google Play store.
One terrific way to support dog welfare here in Malaysia is to adopt one of the many dogs who desperately needs a loving home. You think these emojis are cute? Wait till you see the photos of the pooches on http://PetFinder.my!
