SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT BIRDS ENTERING YOUR PREMISES? HERE’S HOW SOMEONE TRIED TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE
The sight of birds can be exciting and therapeutic to most. But to some, birds are an annoyance. Recently, a member of the public was annoyed with birds who flew into his flat to eat his food. In order to teach the birds a lesson, he caught one bird and – with a thin string – tied its legs to a pole which he hung outside the window. The highly distressed bird was filmed frantically struggling to fly off for some time until released (see video below).
That, of course, did not stop other birds from entering his flat. Hence, the only lesson learned here was that such lessons fail to resolve the issue, whilst inflicting undue suffering on our feathered friends.
If you find birds entering your house, here are more effective and humane ways to prevent this from happening, so that we can all live together like birds of a feather:
1. Cover food in your house.
2. Place bird nettings or mesh across window panels.
3. Hang wind chimes at windows. Sound is known to repel birds.
4. Place images/figurines resembling natural predators (like hawks or eagles), or scarecrows. Change or move these images/figures occasionally, so that the birds dont become accustomed to them.
5. Apply non-toxic, bird repellent spray to the window area, and where you do not wish for birds to visit.
Despite her rapid urbanisation, Singapore supports more than 400 species of birds, of which 180 are resident species.
Share this post with your friends! We hope that through education, people will learn to live in greater harmony with the animals around us, and appreciate the beauty and unique gifts they have to offer. YOU can play a part in spreading the word.
