Today, Jessy Lian brought Mama-X, Wolverine, Leopard and Puma to our panel vet for a check-up. The X-kittens have mild diarrhoea.
This is Mama-X. In the last visit, she was estimated to be 11 years old (from her teeth). Jessy says she is a very good and protective mother.
The X-Kittens - Puma, Wolverine and Leopard.
Jessy pacifying them.
The kittens felt better when they could see their mama.
Mama-X first...
Jessy said she noticed Mama-X's urine looked diluted.
It's easy to express urine from a female, so we collected some and it was a nice light yellow colour. The vet said it looked alright. Jessy agreed to getting Mama-X spayed because a neighbourhood tomcat is going after her and at her age, you wouldn't want her getting pregnant again. So, her spaying is scheduled next Monday and she will be put on drips, as a safety measure (due to her age). Cats and dogs have no menopause, so they can continue procreating until they die, which isn't healthy for them.
Leopard's turn now.
Leopard is female and weighs 650g. She has no fever and appears to be alright.
Puma is male and weighs 700g.
Puma also has no fever.
Wolverine's turn now. Despite the antibiotics and the Neurobion prescribed in the last visit, her wobblyness still persists. However, she has put on weight (she is now 750g, compared to 600g in the last visit). This is, of course, a good sign. The vet now thinks we can rule of Dry FIP (which is good news). But we still do not know what is causing the wobblyness.
We're waiting for the antibiotics for the diarrhoea for all three of them.
Puma first.
Leopard's turn. They all hate the medicine.
I wait with Wolverine while the other two take their medicine.
Checking Wolverine's reflexes.
All seems well.
Looking at how Wolverine walks, to check her reflexes.
Differential diagnosis for Wolverine now:
1. Could still be toxoplasmosis and maybe the antibiotics is working.
2. Could be a non-infectious problem. For eg, a lesion in the brain.
If it is (1), Wolverine should get better with more antibiotics. If it is (2), the lesion might grow bigger as Wolverine grows.
The vet had seen two such similar cases over the past week. These were pet-cats and they were wobbly as well, but both passed away after a few days. The owners did not allow any post-mortem, so the cause of death is not known.
We hope Wolverine will recover. Jessy says she is very active, happy and even plays rough with the rest of her siblings.
Well, one day at a time then. We hope Wolverine will continue to be active, happy and well.
For that matter, we wish everyone the same - to be active, happy and well....until it's time to go, we go. No suffering. Wouldn't it be great if that's the way life works for everyone?
I read from somewhere that's how heavenly beings live - they are always active, happy and well and when it's time to die, they just die, without suffering. But that is a different story altogether, of course. I guess that's the difference between heaven and earth!
Get well soon, Wolverine. Remember you're an X-Cat, so you're a tough cookie.
