Did you know that civets are cruelly exploited in the production of what is known to be the most expensive coffee in the world?
Kopi Luwak (civet coffee) is derived from undigested coffee beans passed out by civets. Civets used to produce these beans are fed mostly coffee cherries, and their faeces then go through a cleaning, drying, roasting and grounding process before it is ready for sale. This coffee type has been labelled most expensive due to its unique processing before consumption.
An average cup of Kopi Luwak can cost up to around S$70. Although these unique coffee beans can be attained from free ranging civets, high demand for consumption has led to cruel means to gather the coffee beans. Those include battery farming, involving civets being contained in cramped cages and fed only coffee berries, resulting in stress and malnourishment.
Would you consume coffee attained via cruelty to civets?
Help to stop the exploitation of captive civets for Kopi Luwak by discouraging others to purchase/sell coffee made from harming civets. YOU can play YOUR part to stop animal cruelty.
YOUR COFFEE, YOUR CHOICE.
