NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUNDUP: 31st JULY 2015
1. Razor (top left), an insectivorous bat, was spotted resting in the same spot for a couple of days, possibly stranded within a contained environment. Thanks go to the concerned member of public who called us to help Razor. Following some rest and gulping a lot of fluids, Razor could not wait to fly away soon after sunset!
2. Morteen (bottom left) is one of three paradise tree snakes who were rescued after a pest control company employee sprayed insecticide on them. Ignorance kills. This would have been the case if Morteen and one of the other snakes hadnt received help in time. Unfortunately, it was too late for the third snake. The two survivors were convulsing due to the chemicals sprayed on them. Following hours of oxygen and warmth, both snakes returned to normalcy and were released.
3. Dusk (top right) is another insectivorous bat who landed on the ground, needing a little lift to take off again! Bats are flying mammals, but they are often unable to take off from the ground, and need some height to do so. Dusk flew away once placed on a tree trunk!
4. Norma (bottom right) is a lucky common wolf snake who was found in someones garden. Thanks go to the very understanding and compassionate caller, who released the snake after learning about this harmless species and their behaviour. Such calls give us (and the animals) so much hope for a community that can live in harmony with wildlife, through more awareness!
Do remember to call the ACRES 24-hour Wildlife Rescue Hotline at 9783 7782 if you spot any wild animals in Singapore who may need some help.
