TOGETHER, Lets End Tiger Trade.

The tiger (Panthera tigris) is the largest of the Asian cats. Tigers can weigh up to 660 pounds and can reach 10 feet in length. Unlike many cats, tigers are excellent swimmers and love the water. Each tiger has unique set of stripes, and this helps with individual identification in the wild.

It is shocking and disheartening that wild tiger numbers have decreased by 95% over the last century. Reasons include habitat loss and widespread poaching for various consumer demands.

The sale or possession of tiger parts is illegal in Singapore. During undercover investigations by ACRES in 2015, more than half of the shopkeepers approached mentioned that the sale of tiger parts is prohibited by the Singapore government, or controlled by permit requirements several years ago. Some said that they ceased selling tiger parts after having had illegal items in their shop confiscated and fines imposed several years ago.

Under Singapores Endangered Species (Import And Export) Act, any person who has in his possession or under his control, or who sells, offers or exposes or advertises for sale, or displays to the public any scheduled species which has been imported or introduced from the sea in contravention of subsection (1) shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $50,000 for each such scheduled species (but not to exceed in the aggregate $500,000) or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or to both.

Help to stop wild tigers disappearing forever by discouraging others from buying /selling any products made from tiger parts. You can report any illegal trading of tiger parts in Singapore to ACRES by calling our Wildlife Crime Hotline at 97837782, or sending an e-mail acrescrime@gmail.com with photographic/ video evidence of the trade.

YOU can play YOUR part to conserve this magnificent animal in their natural habitat.

And you can find out more this August 25th, by taking the opportunity to catch award-winning photographer Steve Winter on stage as he shares his wild stories and efforts in protecting large cats, here in Singapore! For more information go to www.nglive.org/singapore
