HELPING WILD ANIMALS AFFECTED BY CONSTRUCTION WORK BY RAISING AWARENESS
Our wildlife rescue team is kept busy not only attending to calls about wild animals in distress, but also conducting educational sharing sessions at construction sites all over Singapore. The site workers often experience their first ever encounter with a wild animal during construction operations such as land clearing, piling works and laying of pipes.
When we are called for sightings of snakes at a construction site that is adjacent to a water body or forested area, we always offer to conduct a briefing for the site personnel. Our objective is to raise awareness on what wild animals they may come across, the dos and donts when a wild animal has been spotted, and basic identification skills to avoid unnecessary panic.
Last week, our Wildlife Manager, Kalai, facilitated an exciting sharing session at the Lorong Halus site of Sanli M&E Engineering Pte Ltd. Kalai was able to recce the site where the pipes will be laid, so he could share more relevant information to the workers. It was a fun experience sharing the common names of the snakes in various languages!
Our thanks to Mr. Stanley and Mr. Lim, the Project Manger from Sanli M&E Engineering Pte Ltd, for arranging this visit and kindly making a donation!
If you know of a work site or have a contact at a work site who may be interested in such a session, please email Kalai at kalai@acres.org.sg.
