ERNIE GOES OUTDOORS INTO THE SANCTUARY!
Back in February, we shared a post about Ernie, a rescued female giant Asian pond turtle. Ernie is a timid turtle and was not welcomed by Audrey into the enclosure for female giant Asian pond turtles. During the attempted introduction, Ernie was on the receiving end of a bad bite from Audrey and needed to go back into quarantine to receive treatment.

Ernie has since recovered fully. However, Audrey is still territorial. We had to split the enclosure so that Audrey is now housed separately from the other turtles. Audrey now has her own water tub and space. Ernie has been moved out of quarantine to share the remaining enclosure with Andrea. Andrea is another timid turtle who previously learned to live with Audrey by staying away from her. We felt Andrea and Ernie would be able to peacefully co-exist together, or so we thought…
We’ve been keeping a close eye on them and recently spotted ‘timid’ Ernie taking some nips at Andrea! Sigh! Poor Andrea. These turtles continue to keep us on our toes with their antics and unpredictable characters and behaviours! For now, we are keeping a close eye to ensure that Ernie doesn’t become overly aggressive towards Andrea.
