Liew wrote to me a few weeks ago about this stray cat who appeared to be having a skin problem. All Liew wanted was some advice and the recommendation of a vet. He did not need any sponsorship as he would gladly take care of the medical expenses of this stray cat.
So, we recommended on panel vet and Liew brought "Bising" (that's the cat's name) two weeks ago.
Here's Liew's sharing after the visit:
Thank you so much for recomending me your vet. Although it is a long way off for us (Pandan Perdana, Cheras), we think it is worth all the effort.
1. As suggested by the receptionist when we called the clinic for an appointment, we caught the stray cat the night before and put him into a carrier. The lady also told us not let the cat eat or drink. As expected he made ‘noise’. I wrote a note and stuck it on the carrier. The neighbours were very understanding. 2. Got up bright and early but it was a very wet morning! Upon inspection, we found the cat had fouled up the carrier. 3. Lacking experience in such thing I made the wrong decision i.e. tried to wash out the carrier with the cat in it! Talk about angry protestations. Not to get him into a worst mood than he was already in, I wrapped the whole carrier in a big plastic bag (with ventilation provided of course) and took it to the car. 4. The journey to Subang Jaya was not so bad. The humming of the car pacify the cat. I remembered my pediatrician friend said the same thing for fretful baby! The cat made no noise during the journey. We were thankful for the long drive, gave us time to calm down ourselves. 5. Found the the clinic without much problem but they were not open! 6. Oh yes, in the excitement, we made good time and we were actually early. Unfortunately there were no kopitiam around to feed us two. 7. Good thing we did not have to wait long. Two ladies came by soon to open the doors. I brought in the stinky carrier, wanting to clean it up before the vet examines the cat. 8. While I was registering the cat, the Vet came in. He walked straight to the carrier and addressed the cat inside. I knew at once the cat will be in good hands. 9. The receptionist asked me the name of the pet. I got stumped because it was not my pet! But without hesitation I said ‘Bising’ because he makes the loudest noise when asking for food. 10. We were invited into the consultation room and met the vet formally. He took the carrier apart and taught me how to hold down the cat by rubbing both his ears. He then took the carrier and wash it clean! How cool is that! He came back and then wiped clean the cat. 11. The vet then explained to us what he thinks is wrong with the cat. He said the cat has mange and not fungus. The bad news of course is that the cat will suffer and looks ugly. If I am not mistaken he said the mange can be eradicated but it will come back when he gets reinfected from other strays. 12. Of course the mange can be take care of if I adopt the cat and keep it as a indoor house cat. Unfortunately I have a house cat for the past 10 years and he is very territorial. 13. I agreed maybe we can do something for ‘Bising’ first. Give him some medication to reduce the itching and stop the mange. The vet then suggested a course of injection. Bising was given the first jab with me holding him. I was sweating ‘blood’. But he behaved like an angel, not even a meow. 14. After settling the bill we drove home. The cat just was enjoying himself inside the cool air of the car. 15. Upon reaching the apartment, we let him out, gave him food and water. 16. So far no sign of improvement (still scratching) but he seems to be like normal. 17. As promised will take him back in two weeks time for the jab again.
Note : The vet and I discussed neutering the cat. Upon inspection of the animal, he said the cat may have undescended testicles. This he say may pose further problems. I say lets fight the fire one at a time. That all for our little adventure.
Thank you again for your help. Will keep you posted.

Bising has recovered so well now....
This is ‘Bising’ a stray that corridor outside my apartment his home. I called him Bising because he meows very loudly whenever he hears me walking up the stairs. I know he is demanding for his food.
Here you can see the mange has completely denuded the hair on Bising’s ears. His whiskers are also badly broken in many places. Bising has his first jab two weeks ago and recovered somewhat. He used to scratch terribly and his ears were all rought and patchy. The Vet taught me how to rub on boths his ears and talk continously. It seems the cat likes the vibrations and become less stress when handle this way.
A month ago Bising’s tail was completely without fur except for a ridge that ran lengthwise. And there were bit patches of exposed skin on his flanks too.
Here you can see Bising’s new fur. Before this he was all mottled and suffered badly. I wish someone will give him a good home. He is very affectionate. Every day he will wait for me at the landing of the last flight of steps. Then he will walked up with me, weaving between my feet. I would love to keep him but I have a 10 year old cat living in the apartment. It will be very difficult for me to keep two cats in the small apartment.
If you would like to adopt Bising, please contact Liew directly at liewfs@interpac.com.my.
We will sponsor Bising' neutering, if Liew is agreeable to it.
