Zuriks Hari Raya

During the month of Ramadhan, Mr Zurik did not come for breakfast. He only came for dinner, which was around 3.30pm or 4.00pm. Sometimes, he came late, at around 5.00pm. But he definitely turned up for dinner.
Not for breakfast.
I was very sure he had decided to “go home” to where he had originally come from. We’ve followed him on his routes before. From our house, he goes up the road, then he disappears into one of the houses.
We’ve asked a neighbour (we thought Zurik was his cat) and he said no. Zurik just bypasses that particular house to get to the road behind ours. Zurik probably has a home there.
I figured Zurik must have been getting a huge “sarapan sahur” every morning so he would be too full to make the trip here to eat with the PatioCats.
“Eat? Who needs your catfood? I have a scrumptious sarapan sahur”, he was probably saying.
But he’d come for dinner. Without fail.
“Okay, okay, fair enough, the buka puasa at my place is later, so I’ll just come eat your food even though it’s just catfood that you’re serving.”
Breakfast at the patio without Mr Zurik.
Mr Zurik back at around 3.30pm every afternoon, only for dinner.
But the PatioCats did miss him a lot and whenever he came back for dinner (his early “buka puasa”), Daffodil and Ginger would lick him all over.
Our Russian cat has actually become relatively peaceful.
I even thought that perhaps it was Mr Zurik’s way of gently saying goodbye to us. Maybe he has found a home somewhere where he is happy, so he’s just coming back for dinner to tell us that he would be leaving soon.
But I think that’s not so, because since 1st Syawal, he has been back every day, for breakfast and dinner and in between!! Mr Zurik spent Hari Raya here, in our house!
But he has been very peaceful nowadays. No more picking fights with Vincent. I think this peace was brought about because Ginger is now the new alpha at the patio.
Mr Zurik, we cannot quite figure you out, but never mind, as long as you are peaceful, you are welcomed!
“Vi opinias ke vi scias ?”
Oh my goodness, that’s not Russian! You went away and learnt a new language, Mr Zurik?
Just where do you come from?
