THE ENDANGERED HUMPHEAD WRASSE, FOOD FOR THOUGHT?
The humphead wrasse is one of the largest coral reef fish in the ocean and is native to the Indo Pacific Region. Did you know that this species can grow up to 2.3 metres in length, 191 kilograms in weight, and live up to 30 years?!
This species is one of the most highly sought species of the Live Reef Food Fish Trade (LRFFT). Its become endangered due to high demand for human consumption, mainly within Eastern Asian countries.
The humphead wrasse is protected in Singapore. It cannot be sold or purchased without relevant permits. However, there are troubling reports that this beautiful, endangered species is being sold ILLEGALLY for food by certain shops in Singapore.
Help to stop the decimation of humphead wrasse populations by urging others not to consume it, and report sales to ACRES by calling our Wildlife Crime Hotline at 97837782, or sending an e-mail to acrescrime@gmail.com with photos or videos.
YOU can keep this beautiful animal alive and free!
