Due to their keen sense of smell and intelligence, these rats have been trained to sniff out land mines, the lethal leftovers of human wars which continue to endanger the lives of innocent humans and animals.
According to the report, NO RAT HAS BEEN KILLED IN A MINEFIELD because they are intelligent enough to avoid and also small enough not to be detected by these killer gadgets.
The average lifespan of rats is 8 years, but these hero rats are retired at six. They then get to live out their lives munching on avocados, apples and bananas, loved by their handlers. Bravo!
Since 2000, thanks to these hero rats, 9000 buried land mines and bombs have been uncovered (by the rats!) all over Tanzania and Mozambique.
Our thoughts:
While it is not exactly right making rats work for us to clean up the mess we humans have made for ourselves, the consolation is that these rats are appreciated and well-loved by their handlers. And no rat has been harmed in this operation.
To these heroic rats, we salute all of you!
And we hope humans may develop a little bit of intelligence in not planting land mines anymore so that humans and rats may live on a more peaceful planet Earth.

On another note, if there are other humans who think that rats should not live in filthy drains in their towns, we hope these humans will develop a wee bit of intelligence too and stop dumping their food waste into the drains. That’ll help, you know. Please don’t blame the rats. They are just eating up the garbage we produce.
