A Groundbreaking (and Groundshaking?) 5-Cat Day-Out Adventure
Tweet |
Since moving into this house, we’ve never ever let FIVE cats out at the same time before.
That was simply unthinkable and you do not take such risks.
On a daily basis, Tabs and Tiger get to come out whenever we are home. This is because they are totally friendly with the PatioCats and we don’t have to worry about fights or having to rush to the vet’s on emergencies. And when Tabs and Tiger are out, that’s when you also see them totally relaxed and extremely thankful because inside Bunny’s Place, they are the victims of the bullies. Poor Indy always has to intervene to defend them.
Lately, Indy has been getting trips out as well. He has proven himself so far in not launching any attacks on Daffodil, Rosie or Heidi. I won’t be so sure of what might happen if he meets up with Ginger, Vincent or Zurik, though and I’m certainly not taking any chances at this moment.
And Bunny gets all his special privileges because he is extraordinarily persistent at whining at the grille. This persistent whining is magnified manifold when Jia-Wen is back. The other day, Bunny went for one of his trips out and he suddenly attacked poor Ginger. Luckily it was just a locked-body situation for a split second and poor Ginger bolted and was away until evening.
But, yesterday, somehow or rather, we ended up having five cats out at the same time for the first time…ever.
Bunny was first.
Something must be very interesting in this bush as he spent a long time sniffing and that resulted in some plants being totally trampled flat.
Next to come out was Indy.
We were already taking a big risk with two cats out in the garden (no boundaries). Indy could make his lightning escapes and we wouldn’t be able to stop him at all.
Daffodil is watching Bunny from a distance.
Next to be granted the privilege is Tiger.
But of course this is nothing new, Tiger gets to come out all the time, but is confined to the house. Once outside in the garden, all cats practise selective hearing, so they can do as they please, and go wherever they like. You can holler until your throat runs dry and they simply cannot hear a word of what you say. So you’d understand why I say this is truly risk-taking at its worst.
Oh oh…Ginger is just under the car.
Shh….do not move, Ginger.
We’ve noticed something about Bunny. He doesn’t seem to see very well (or does this apply to all cats?). If you don’t move, he cannot see you. Why, the other day, he was so eager to be let out that he trampled over Ginger (who was lying on his Carebears blankie), by-passed Rosie and Daffodil and just trotted out from his room to the patio.
And many-a-times on his trip out, Vincent would be sitting very still on his table while Daffodil would be just lying at the patio. Bunny just doesn’t see them at all. He’s too busy sniffing everywhere.
This is Vincent’s table. I’ll bet the smells are very interesting here.
Just then, a delivery truck came to our gate and Daffodil took Ginger on an escape route. Yes, you read that right. Daffodil “took” Ginger to safety.
Here’s how it happened. We heard the truck approaching. Daffodil ran up the rubbish compartment and looked back at Ginger. Ginger then came running and together, they both went up to the ledge and took Mr G’s route to safety…
…here.
Can you see both of them hiding behind the plants?
Yes, there must be something really interesting in this bush.
Bunny is bored.
Of course Tabs is out too. But she was initially inside the house. Now, she is venturing out as well.
When Tabs is out, she doesn’t hear us anymore and once, she did landed up on the neighbour’s roof.
Finally…
…Cow makes an entrance, or should I say, exit?
Cow is an house cat. He is not interested in venturing anywhere. Since he opened his eyes as a mere kitten, he had taken up the responsibility of protecting everyone else. So, he stays in the house and ensures that everyone is safe.
We often say that Cow is crazy because he never quite had a childhood. He was always too busy taking care of everyone else. Poor Cow…so for that, we forgive him for his madness and anger problem.
By the way, Cow’s eye is as good as new again…finally! Dr Vijay’s “do the least harm” protocol worked! Debridement followed by….nothing else. Let the body heal by itself.
Whenever he is out, Indy would make these Formula-One dashes upstairs. He skids as he turns the corner at the landing – the manouvre is quite extraordinary, to say the least. It’s got showmanship.
And through it all, the dame is asleep on her sofa. Note: it’s HER sofa now.
Tiger is back inside the house.
Daffodil is also back.
Finally, Ginger comes back.
And Cow, Bunny and Indy go back to the room while Tiger and Tabs take a nap in the kitchen.
Phew! A 5-cat day-out adventure…without any incident, mishaps or casualties!
That’s history in the making!!
