Today is World Meat Free Day and it’s still not too late to do a pledge (to go meat-free (at least) once a week!).
In fact, you can do the pledge tomorrow too, it’s never too late to do something beneficial for the animals, for the planet and for ourselves!
This is from the Meat Free Monday newsletter (June edition):
Hello and welcome to the Meat Free Monday newsletter for June.
Today we are supporting World Meat Free Day, which aims to raise awareness of the detrimental impact of meat production, and encourage people to pledge online to go meat free.
According to World Meat Free Day, if 10 million people give up meat for just one day it would save:
– CO2 emissions equivalent to driving around the world 2,438 times
– 885 million calories and 48 tonnes of saturated fat – the weight of 3.5 Big Bens
– 5,700 acres of land – the size of 89,000 tennis courts
– 13 million tonnes water – equivalent to 5,000 Olympic swimming pools
Paul, Mary and Stella McCartney said: “World Meat Free Day highlights how skipping meat for just one day can have a positive impact on people and planet. We hope that participants will feel inspired to eat delicious, healthy food and consider having a break from meat on a regular basis, for example by being part of Meat Free Monday”.
To get involved, skip meat today and make your action count by pledging atwww.worldmeatfreeday.com.
And we say, it’s all for the animals!!
It really does.
