Rescued, then fostered (before adoption): SOPHIE, the puppy
Sophie, a brown/tan cross-breed puppy, was brought to our shelter, on 24 April 2015, shortly after being found (possibly abandoned) at Pioneer Walk. While our vets found her healthy, she was merely about six weeks old then, and too young to be up for adoption.
A kind fosterer, Ms Bettina Storer, stepped forward, offering to help care for Sophie in her initial months. She gave the latter a warm and nurturing home environment to ready her for her eventual adoption phase.
Bettina shared with us that Sophie “had her own little crate upstairs where she would sleep at night and have some quiet time during the day”. And lending that extra hospitality was Bettina’s friendly 3-year-old Border Collie who quickly became her playmate. (Another resident canine, the family’s 3-year-old Dachschund, also became won over by Sophie’s charms, about a week later.)
By about the time she was returned to SPCA for her next phase, she could sit and ‘shake paw’, not bad for an 8-week-old! “We certainly enjoyed every minute of our time with Sophie, and are sure she will a great dog for a lucky family make!”, enthused Bettina.
Sophie later had her Happy Ending come true, as she was adopted by a Mr Yap and his family. Our thanks to both foster and adoptive families for making possible this Happy Ending!
Fostering an animal, as Bettina Storer and family have done, can be a wonderful bonding experience for you and your family. The rewards are intangible, as you would be actually saving a life and making a difference.
By helping to foster animals until space becomes available in our shelter and the animals become older and better able to cope with kennel life, you are helping us save more lives. Do refer to this page to find out more: http://www.spca.org.sg/helpus_fosterparent.asp
