Updates On 7th Jul 2015

Just last Thurs (2 July 2015) evening, we rushed to the aid of a community kitten heard mewing in despair, within a drainage pipe, on the second floor of Golf Line School at Keppel Club Driving Range.

Our Rescue Officer, Daniel, tried locating the kitten, then attempting to lure it out of the pipe by placing an opened can of cat food at the upper opening.

With still no sign of the kitten nearer the pipe’s opening after some time, Daniel and a staff member of the school then utilized a hose to ‘flush’ the kitten out the other end.

(As the pipe is a running pipe such that the water therein would flow out, this rescue measure was assessed to be fairly safe for the kitten stuck in the pipe; the running water would carry the kitten with it as it exits the pipe.)

About ten minutes were all it took for the kitten to ‘slide’ out of the pipe into the drain area below. Daniel promptly caught hold of the kitten using a catch-pole.

The kitten, a local grey/white tabby, was found to be alright and unharmed. It was then handed over to one of the school’s staff, another bystander, who took an interest in adopting it.

It sure seemed that the hours-long ordeal for the kitten has ended well, leading it to a newfound adoptive home.

We are grateful to Mr Yogesh Goenka for alerting us to the animal in distress. (We’ve also posted in the comments here Mr Goenka’s note to SPCA regarding our Rescue Officer Daniel Kor; thank you, Mr Goenka, for your kind words and deeds.)

Members of the public can, likewise, help injured, sick or distressed animals, by alerting SPCA on its 24-hour emergency hotline 62875355 ext 9. (We urge callers to try and remain with the animal(s), until SPCA arrives at the scene.)
