THANK YOU CLAIRE!
Meet Claire Ong, our long-term volunteer who has been volunteering with us since 2010 when she was only 14 years old! Recently, she just completed her five-month internship programme with us and is going on to further study at NUS. We have blessed to have Claire as part of our team: she is a formidable force in advocating for animal welfare and promoting a cruelty-free lifestyle! Today, lets find out more about Claire!
1. How did you get involved with ACRES?
- I learned about ACRES during a roadshow about bear bile, and started volunteering for their roadshows during the Save the World’s Saddest Dolphins campaign. I also and helped with animal care at their sanctuary, and then did an internship at ACRES. I think that this charity is really good, because of their passion to help all animals, such as laboratory animals and farm animals, as people are less aware about their plight.
2. What experience have you gained so far?
- During the internship, I learned more about supporter database management and how to engage with supporters, and corporates. I also learned more about local animal welfare issues while during research, especially those pertaining to wildlife. I have gained several life lessons too, from both the people and animals, and from there have gained a deeper insight into animal sentience.
3. Why do you think its important to save wild animals?
- It’s important to save wild animals, because they are sentient beings who have their own homes and family, who can experience happiness and suffering, so we should help them when they are in need, and curb and prevent actions that are harmful to them or a threat to their home.
4. What message or advice would give to your peers who share the same passion as you to make a difference for animals?
- You can volunteer for animal welfare causes, and use your strengths and interests to help them, so as to bring out the maximum impact of your effort. There are many ways in which animals need help, so there will always be something you can help out with. Every small effort counts too, so do not be hesitant or discouraged to do it, as it will still make a difference to their lives.
