Unfortunately, they often end up in the sea, where birds, turtles, and other animals commonly mistake the balloons for food and consume them, with deadly consequences.

Please think of alternative, animal-friendly ways to make a statement. And if you hear of anyone organising a balloon release, you can politely inform them of how balloon releases harm wildlife, and ask them to come up with an alternative.
