MORE HOME MAKEOVERS AT THE AWRC!
Last week, we updated you with news of Midoris revamped enclosure. Since then, weve been busy giving makeovers to the rest of our iguana enclosures! Weve made the enclosures as enriching as possible, to give the iguanas more opportunities to climb. Weve also included hanging, unfixed logs, which shake when the iguanas climb onto them. This is a tried and tested form of enclosure enrichment for captive animals.
Green iguanas are native to South America. They have good climbing abilities which they use to forage for leaves and fruits amongst the trees. Sadly, many are traded to supply the pet trade. They do not make good pets as they get stressed easily and can be territorial. In Singapore, it is illegal to keep green iguanas as pets, and the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC) is home to several individuals who have been illegally kept as pets then cruelly abandoned.
Our newly revamped enclosures will provide the rescued iguanas with a more enriching environment in which to live, whilst we work towards providing even better, more naturalistic homes for them in the near future!
