Bravo to Penang for banning shark’s fin soup in official functions!

The sharks are lucky because they have the international support of top activists and celebrities, and they don’t taste as good as steak and bacon.

However, let’s not forget that a shark is merely one out of the thousands of lives sacrificed in an extravagant Chinese-style wedding / feast. Our happiness and celebrations need not be built upon the pain and suffering of other sentient beings.

Let’s hope the next step is a blanket ban of sharks fin in all of Penang, and other states and communities would be inspired to follow suit.
