THE SECRET WE’RE KEEPING FROM TOBY…

Amila Citakovic is a volunteer in Bosnia and the little guy in her lap is named Toby. What Toby doesn’t know, what none of the dogs here at the Dawn’s Nest refuge know, is that there’s no money for food.

This rescue center is part of the Marianne’s Dog Food Bank umbrella which also travels to remote areas to feed the street dogs no one cares for. But there’s no money now for any of it. They had to take out a loan just to pay for a shipment of donated food coming in from Denmark. In July they’ll have the loan to pay and yet they’ll be out of food again.

This is what we’re faced with not just here in Bosnia, but in many countries. The Harmony Fund is expected to provide nearly a half million meals to animals across the planet this summer, but how? Summer is always a slow time for donations.
