MEET MILK, THE LATEST INDIAN STAR TORTOISE TO BE RESCUED BY ACRES

Milk was rescued after being abandoned at a vet clinic. She was apparently kept illegally as a pet for about eight years, and then the owners decided they that didnt want her any longer. The fact that she has an abscess on her face could have been one factor in the owners abandoning her: because they didnt want to pay the vet bills. Indian star tortoises do not make good pets and are difficult to take care of. They also require specialist care when sick or injured.

With the help of The Pet Doctors clinic, Milks abscess was surgically removed, and the wound cleaned and stitched up. Milk is still recovering and it remains to be seen how well she can recover and if other complications arise. We are doing all we can to keep her comfortable and healthy.

There are many reasons why wild animals shouldnt be kept as pets. Besides it being illegal to keep most wild animals as pets in Singapore, and the fact that the illegal wildlife trade is cruel and unethical, theres one more very important reason. Wild animals simply do not make good pets. These animals are best left in the wild where they belong.
