Updates On 31st May 2015

We wish all a happy long weekend, and a Happy Vesak Day to all our Buddhist donors, supporters and friends! While you celebrate the short holiday with your family and friends, kindly spare a thought for our animal friends. Our shelter remains open on public holidays and our animals continue to wait for their forever homes. Come visit them!

Opening hours for Vesak Day:

1 June 2015, Monday – 11am to 4pm

For more details, refer to http://www.spca.org.sg/contact_openinghours.asp.

We also wish to remind all NOT to kill life on a celebrated holiday, by releasing animals on Vesak Day. Freeing animals on Vesak Day does more harm than good, as the outcome will be destructive to the animals. Companion/pet animals cannot survive in the wild as they are unable to find food, safety and shelter on their own, which they have been provided all this while by their pet parents.

Do your part to show true compassion for animals, and better conserve nature and protect our environment, by NOT releasing animals (be they turtles, fish, birds or even one’s own companion animals) at all.

In Singapore, it is against the law to release any animal into our public parks, reservoirs, nature reserves and other places. First-time offenders caught releasing animals may be charged under the Parks and Trees Act, and could be fined up to S$50,000, jailed up to six months, or both.

We thank the authorities for continuing to step up education and enforcement efforts at several parks, nature areas, reservoirs and waterways islandwide, as part of ‘Operation No Release’. More about this national effort and collaboration can be read here: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/operation-no-release/1844534.html
