DOG’S SECRET TO SUMMER HAPPINESS

Awwww… That’s one happy dog. Rather than walking on the hot city street, his family took him for a swim.

In the summer, walking your dog on hot pavement can contribute to overheating and possible heat stroke. Dogs naturally cool themselves through their paw pads, but when they walk on hot pavement, their body temperature rises fast and there is a serious risk of burns.

SIGNS OF BURNED PAW PADS:

1. limping or refusing to walk

2. licking or chewing at the feet

3. pads darker in color

4. missing part of pad

5. blisters or redness

If you want to take a run or long walk into town on a hot summer day, leave your dog at home. Dogs do best to have shaded walks during the coolest hours of the day- and many love to go for a little swim like this one did.

Please, please stay away from the hot pavement.

Animal Rescue Chase

The Great Animal Rescue Chase celebrates the art of animal rescue with a worldwide race to rescue one million. It’s a free event, open to all, and is perhaps the only global animal rescue event aimed at helping any animal in distress, anywhere in the world. Our ambition is to create a culture of enthusiasm and pride in animal activism. We believe in teaching, by example, that there is a hero in each of us just waiting to be unleashed. Empowered animal lovers can not only save lives, but build the momentum for powerful animal welfare reform.
