Is this a season of cat-sicknesses or is it because it's the seventh month in the Chinese calendar?
I don't know, but coincidentally, many of our cases seem to be serious ones. And there have been more deaths than usual too.
Say what you will, but I have noticed for decades that calamities, disasters and personal ill-fortune do strike a wee bit more during this infamous month where legend has it that Chinese suffering spirits are let loose from Chinese hells and they roam freely where Chinese people populate.
Oh well, may they not harm us or our animals because we don't do any harm to them.....
Back to our case of Snowy....
Maria texted me yesterday. One of the cats she feeds, Snowy, seemed unwell. Maria has no transport, so Agnes agreed to help out.
So, Agnes brought Snowy to the vet in Sri Petaling this morning and it's not very good news:
Maria's cat, Snowy, is in a serious condition. According to Maria, he was missing for about a week and when he returned to Maria's place 3 days ago he was very inactive and hardly touched his food. He became very stressed and was wheezing when the vet took his body temperature through the anus. Temperature was sub-normal at 37 degrees C. Soon after he began gasping for air and breathing through his mouth. He was given oxygen straightaway while a small cage was prepared by wrapping all round with plastic, like cling-wrapping. He was placed in the cage on a hot water bottle and with oxygen filling the cage through the tubing. This is to stabilise his condition before the following actions can be done:
PBF (Peripheral Blood Film) in-clinic test for blood count, WBC, RBC, etc Blood test at lab Antibiotic injection
Tomorrow the vet will let me know if he's stabilised enough for an X-ray to be taken. Then I may have to bring him to another vet since this clinic has no X-ray facility. Will inform you tomorrow.
Because his lungs are affected, there are 3 possibilities: Pneumonia, bronchitis or diaphragmatic hernia.
Snowy in the "oxygen bubble".
We will update tomorrow.
Please say a prayer for all our cats today - Snowy, Only-One, Wolverine, Mama-X, Nuzul and Terry.
And the Chinese spirits who are out roaming our streets as well - may you all be well and happy.
I still can't help wondering....if the majority of the Chinese people stop believing in the damnation of the 7th month, perhaps it wouldn't be as "damned" as it is. I think it's a case of a self-fulfilling prophecy - you believe it, it happens. The Chinese population in the world is huge, and many believe in the damnation of the seventh month. Some other cultures like the Indo-Chinese believe in it too.
I may be wrong, of course!
But then again....what good comes out of believing in bad things?
The self-fulfilling prophecy works.
