Amy Tham brought Nuzul (yesterday's kitten) and another (abandoned) kitten, Terry, to our panel vet for a check-up today.
This is Terry.
Terry was dumped at the restaurant and apparently, the workers had fed him "all kinds of food" and now Terry has diarrhoea. Anyway, the workers were not going to feed him anymore, so Amy took him home.
We'll look at little Nuzul first. Nuzul has a limping leg and cannot seem to control his bowel movement.
Do you notice his whiskers are shorter than normal? The girl (read yesterday's posting) probably cut the whiskers. Some children think small animals are playthings. They don't understand that the whiskers is a means of survival for cats. If the whiskers do not touch the boundaries of any opening, it means the whole cat can go through. That is how a cat decides if it should enter any hole or opening. Most cats do not get stuck. Some still do, though.
Isn't he just so photogenic?
The vet checked Nuzul. Nuzul has a hip fracture and as with most hip fractures, it occurs on both sides (because of symmetry). It's called a "box fracture". Since Nuzul is a kitten, it usually heals very well if Nuzul can be kept confined in a small space.
Nuzul is such a well-behaved cat.
So, the plan for Nuzul would be confinement for 6-8 weeks in a small space to prevent too much movement. His inability to control his bowel movement is also due to the hip fracture. It will correct itself as the hip fracture heals.
And now, for Terry.
Terry's temperature is normal. The treatment for his diarrhoea is to put him on Hill's ID first. If it worsens, then medication (later).
Nuzul's and Terry's treatment are sponsored from our funds.
