HEAT STROKE RISK HIGHER IN DOGS WITH BLACK FUR
It’s true. Animals covered in dark colored fur are at greater risk of heat stroke. The darker fur absorbs more light (rather than reflecting it) and that light is converted into heat energy. A dark-furred pet will get hot much more quickly than one with lighter fur.
Overweight and short nosed breeds are also at greater risk during hot weather. Make sure to provide ample shade for your pets and enjoy most of your outdoor time together during the coolest hours of the day.
