ENRICHING EXPERIENCES FOR BOTH YOUTHS AND TORTOISES!
Students from UWCSEA (United World College of South-East Asia), together with their teacher Rebecca Maynard, recently dropped by ACRES again with some wonderful gifts for our tortoises!
The students have been using their creative skills to upcycle unused materials to make climbing platforms for the tortoises. They spent a fruitful Sunday morning installing the platforms in the enclosures and observed how some of the tortoises came out of hiding in their shelters– due to the very hot weather – and started climbing the platforms to ‘hunt’ for their favorite hibiscus flowers.
The students also got to learn about the illegal wildlife trade and had the chance to prepare some simple dietary enrichment for Newton and Reaper, two of the rescued turtles in our care.
These creative and fun projects allow youngsters to come together and be hands-on in making a difference for the animals, and through that learn more about the wildlife trade. We are delighted to share the experience with them!
