Don’t leave your pets in the car!
Contrary to popular belief, it is NOT okay to leave your pet in your car, even if it’s for a short while as you go about your errands.
The temperature inside a stationary car can soar real quickly, and your dog, if left in the car, could sustain brain damage or even die from heatstroke in under 15 minutes. Beating the heat is extra difficult for dogs because they can only cool themselves by panting and sweating through their paw pads. Even leaving a small gap through a partially opened window does not help.
If you see a dog left alone in a hot car, take down the cars colour, model, make, and licence plate number. Have the owner contacted as soon as possible, even using the public announcement system, and call the police and the SPCA (at its 24-hour emergency line, 62875355 ext 9). Have someone keep an eye on the dog, too. Do not leave the scene until the authorities and the SPCA have arrived.
Pet owners, we appeal to you to put your pets’ welfare and wellbeing first. NEVER leave any of your pets in your car.
