Misai Kucing Tea For My Kucings
Tweet |
Following what I learnt from my vet about the researched and tested efficacy of misai kucing in assisting kidney health (yes, for cats too, not just humans alone), I managed to source the misai kucing plant from the nursery for only RM3 per plant.
I have three plants now and they are ready for harvesting.
Here’s the proper way of doing it (the source is an article from FRIM): http://www.frim.gov.my/v1/fin/file/MY_899_20140718_N_NSTE_HOME_pg13_18201.pdf

Well, I did not follow the above procedures exactly as I only found the FRIM article now (at the point of writing this blogpost)!
This is what I did.
My misai kucing plants.
Dried, after three days, in the good old reliable sun. Will continue drying it more until the leaves turn brown.
I didn’t crush the leaves, though. Steeping the tea in hot water.
The tea-making process is supervised by Ginger, as he does with the sewing too.
Ginger is a born-supervisor, no doubt about that. And he takes pride in his inborn talent…of supervising.
Everyone gets misai kucing tea for their late afternoon meal. It’s mixed with their Monge.
Note that Mr Zurik has to face a different direction when eating because….of his Zurik-ways. He still tries to pick a fight with everyone. Heidi is anti-social when it comes to eating.
Here too, of course.
It all started with Cow – it’s to improve his kidney readings.
Tabs has to eat at her own dining table but under supervision, or else Cleo and Cow will snatch her food. She is terrified of them. A vet once told me that in multiple-cat households, a timid cat can starve to death due to territorial issues. So meal times are supervised (by us humans) at Bunny’s Place.
Cleo chooses the washing machine so that she can jump from there onto Tabs’ dining table and scare poor Tabs away. Cleo does this even before she finishes her food. The human supervisor has to intervene when this happens and it happens every day. Such is the persistent nature of cats. Cleo is a Cow, so…
Cow also snatches Tabs’ food. Is it in the genes, one wonders…
Bunny says in case you did not spot him in the photo above, here he is.
Bunny polishes up everyone’s bowl, but he does not snatch.
