Jennifer is back, safe and sound!! We wish her a speedy recovery from the aftermath of the climb and we thank Jennifer and all donors very much for making this Jade Gift possible for the animals.

Let’s hear from our Jade climber:

Dear Sis. KahYein,

Firstly, let me apologize for the delay in sending you this write up, as I am sick since the time I returned to Kuala Lumpur on Monday (11th May) and still recuperating. But no worries, I am recovering well.

Secondly, the good news! I have managed to reach the Main Peak of Mt. Jade on 6th May. This hike was more taxing compared to Mt. Snow last year. It took more than a week for most of the muscles to recover. But my right wrist is taking a longer time to recover as it was injured prior to the climb. Below is the short recap of the hike:

Taiwan 3-10May2015-04

I started the climb with my group (total of 16 people including myself) and our mountain guides on 5th May (Tuesday) at around 8:40am at Tatajia Recreation Area (Mt. Jade trailhead).

(Mt. Jade Trailhead)

The weather was cold and was drizzling. Then, it started to rain and we have to walk with our raincoats on. The rain turned to constant drizzle the whole time and the mountain was covered with thick fog till we reached Paiyuan Lodge (8.5km from trailhead). On the way up, we met several hikers who were making their way down the mountain and told us that they have to cancel the hike up to Main Peak owing to heavy rain. My group members and I started to get worried that our hike up to Main Peak tomorrow morning will be cancelled owing to the bad weather.

The hike to Main Peak started at around 2:40am the next morning (6th May, Wednesday). We were so happy when we woke up at 1:30am to find the weather was fine for us to continue the hike. The distance from Paiyuan Lodge to Main Peak was 2.4km and the last 200m being the steepest and most difficult section. The wind was so strong when we were hiking up to Main Peak and we were all feeling so cold. However, the view of sea of clouds and the moon mesmerized all of us. Finally, my group and I reached the Main Peak (3952m) at around 5am!! We have to hide behind some boulders to keep away from the strong wind and to wait for the sunrise.

Both my mental and physical were challenged beyond my usual limit. It was definitely a great personal experience and achievement. The encouragement and support from my group members, mountain guides, all generous donors and well-wishers definitely kept me going by taking a step at a time.

Therefore, I would like to thank everyone for their kind support and encouragement! And also thanks to AnimalCare for the permission to use this hike to raise fund for the animals!

Warm regards,

Jennifer
