Eileen just called to say Chubby has passed away.

Chubby was diagnosed with Canine Parvo Virus. He was put on drips and treated at the vet's. Eileen came to get some RetroMAD1, but it did not seem to help. Chubby developed jaundice two days later, was given blood transfusion but succumbed to the disease today.

May Chubby be in a better place now.

Parvo Virus is VERY deadly.  Please protect your puppy by vaccinating them when they are of age.

Remember Brownie also had Parvo Virus and he was in a bad state because he was shooting bloody diarrhoea and he had collapsed. But Brownie was vaccinated just three days before that, and the vet said the antibodies start to kick in after 5 days. Brownie survived.

As bad as some people believe vaccination to be, it does protect young animals from some of the most deadly diseases (including distemper) known to us. Adult animals may have developed some immunity to protect themselves, but young animals are very susceptible.

There is also Parvo Virus in cats. It is called Panleukopenia. It is equally deadly. In fact, it started off with Parvo Virus in cats. The virus mutated and went on to attack dogs.

Panleukopenia can be protected through vaccinations too.

We suggest the first three vaccinations for puppies and kittens. Subsequent vaccinations can be done every THREE years. But please consult your vet for a professional and more informed guideline.

Will Parvo attack humans next?
Apparently not...for now.

See this: http://www.2ndchance.info/panleukopenia.htm
(Scroll to the last paragraph. A China study showed that the parvo virus in cats was transmittable to monkeys.)

Monkeys....humans...
