NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUNDUP: 10th APRIL 2015

Do remember to call the ACRES 24-hour Wildlife Rescue Hotline at 97837782 if you spot any wild animals in Singapore who may need some help.

1. (Left) Can you spot the bird on the top left of the top row of glass panels? Sky, a pink-necked green pigeon, was stuck inside the hall. Thanks to the kind teachers who called us to help the pigeon, our rescue officer put up the ladder and used extensions of nets to rescue Sky. Luckily Sky did not have any injuries, and was released immediately. It was a fulfilling experience meeting the kids at the school, who were excited to learn more about wildlife!

2. (Top middle) Paradox is a common palm civet who got himself trapped in someones house. Fortunately for Paradox, the residents of the house were very kind people and concerned for his safety. With a little lift and shift, Paradox was free to be wild again! We love meeting such kind residents who live in harmony with our beautiful wildlife.

3. (Below middle) A newspaper delivery person called our Wildlife Rescue Hotline for help to move an animal who was resting on a pile of newspapers, so that he could continue his shift at 2 AM! Meet the snoozing animal in question- Paperman, a Sunda pangolin! Paperman was gently herded away, to an adjacent forested area.

4. (Right) Reticulated pythons are one of the native, rather frequently sighted urban wild animals in Singapore who are possibly attracted to the rodent population. Active at night, they use canals and drains to navigate, and may choose a spot inside a drain/canal to rest during the day. A python was spotted trying to find a place to rest in the canal pictured here. It was rather a difficult case for us as, for the snakes safety, we needed to convince members of public to let the snake be and stop them from calling a pest control company. Snakes are after all native wild animals, and this snake was simply in his/her normal urban habitat. After much discussion, thankfully we were able to convince them that the best course of action was to leave the snake in peace.
