Many of you may have read about Walnut, the red-footed tortoise who was recovering from severe necrotic skin wounds. He was also the inspiration for our recent online fundraiser “Warmth for Walnut”. Walnut has shown his ability to be tough and hardy – as red-footed tortoises are known to be – and has since recovered.
Here is the link to the initial post about Walnut: https://www.facebook.com/ACRESasia/posts/10152754320716523
Walnut is now alert, active and has re-grown a healthy layer of skin. This week, we introduced him to Peanut, another adult red-footed tortoise who was rescued several years ago after being found wandering around a housing estate. Both seemed utterly shocked at each other’s presence! They also displayed the side-ways head bobbing and jerking behavior that red-footed tortoises are known to display. In this case, since both are males, both were jerking their heads non-stop, which was an amusing sight!
Walnut is now back in our quarantine for a while, and we will repeat similar introduction sessions to let Walnut and Peanut get used to each other. The current enclosure might need some modifications too, to accommodate one more red-footed tortoise permanently. We’ll post some videos in the near future!
